Prince Philip, husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, dies at age 99

Duke of Edinburgh and husband to Queen Elizabeth II, has died at age 99.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the death of the prince, who was married to the Queen for more than 70 years, on Friday afternoon local time. “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The Duke of Edinburgh is expected to have a royal ceremonial funeral in a socially distanced service in St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. He will not lie in state and there will be no state funeral because he had insisted that he did not want the 'fuss'. His ceremonial royal funeral will be televised and broadcast to the country with crowds anywhere to be discouraged.

The statement has been placed on the gates of Buckingham Palace in London. Meanwhile, the royal family’s official website, Royal.uk, is currently a memorial page for the prince and “temporarily unavailable while appropriate changes are made.” Prince Philip’s death, just two months ahead of his 100th birthday, comes a day after he featured prominently in ITV documentary “The Unseen Queen” — featuring rarely seen archive of the royal couple and their children in their early years — which aired on Thursday night and drew 2.4 million.

Prince Philip was in ill health before his death, having been admitted to hospital in February and later undergoing a procedure for a pre-existing heart condition. He left the hospital and returned to Windsor Castle in March. The prince’s last public appearance was in July 2020 when he transferred his ceremonial role as colonel-in-chief of The Rifles to his daughter-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

In December 2019, the prince spent four days in the hospital for observation and to treat an unspecified pre-existing condition.

Zambia 1-2 Nigeria: Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho the heroes - Super Eagles begin World Cup qualifiers

Goals from Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi and Man City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho were enough for a Super Eagles side lacking so many key players like Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses etc, as they fought out a 2-1 win over Zambia in Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

Nigeria led by Franco-German coach Gernot Rohr started with a line up of Ikeme Carl Onora, Elderson Echiejire, Kenneth Josiah Omeruo, William Troost Ekong, Brown Ideye, John Obi Mikel,

Moses Daddy Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ogenyi Eddy Onazi, Alexander Chuka Iwobi and Onyinye Wilfred Ndidi while the Zambians led by Wedson Nyirenda comprised of Kennedy Mweene, Kabaso Chongo, Fackson Kapumbu, Adrian Chama, Stopilla Sunzu, Nathan Sinkala, Rainford Kalaba, Fwayo Tembo, Chisamba Lungu, Collins Mbesuma  and Winston Kalengo.

Moses started brightly for Nigeria on the right side as he tested the Zambian goalkeeper on the 5th minute then tried his luck with a set piece then at the 26th minute, beat his marker at the left flank before his effort was shot well over the bar.

Nigerians started pressurizing the Zambians then in the 33rd minute, Alex Iwobi volleyed into the net after bad defending from Zambia's defenders.
That goal wasn't enough for the Super Eagles as Kelechi Iheanacho combined well with Mikel Obi and Ideye before dribbling past goalkeeper Mweene then slotted into the net from a tight corner.
In the 48th minute, Zambia made their  first change of the game, replacing Chama with Mtonga.
Nigeria's defence started becoming shaky and the crowd started hyping the home team then in the 70th minute, a cross from Zambia's right wing that was poorly intercepted by Kenneth Omeruo was capitalized by Zambia's No 9 Collins Mbesuma who calmly slotted into the net.

Nigeria sat deep and defended the 1-2 scoreline till the end. Gernot Rohr's men will now return to Nigeria, happy to have gotten the maximum 3 points.
Congrats Super Eagles!

He also said efforts by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to check charging of unapproved fees at some schools can be successful with the help of teachers.

Bring back Nana Aba Anamoah campaign launched

A solidarity campaign has begun to bring back long serving news anchor of TV3 Nana Aba Anamoah who is serving an indefinite suspension for what managers of TV3 say is misconduct.
The anchor has been trending on facebook and Twitter for over a week now after it emerged she had tweeted a thoroughly edited photograph of a Ghanaian football fan watching a game at Old Trafford.
Critics say the manner in which the photograph was edited and posted on her twitter handle subtly created the impression as though she was at Old Trafford when she was not.

Stop ‘Phubbing’ Up Your Relationship

Are you giving more attention to your phone than your S.O.? This habit is called “phubbing,” and it’s probably not doing your relationship any good.

We’ve all been there: You’re spending quality time with your partner, when they whip out their phone and completely block you out.
While the action is small, it can be infuriating — and new research has discovered that it can cause everything from a decrease in your relationship satisfaction to feelings of depression.
For the uninitiated, phubbing (short for “phone snubbing”) is a term coined to capture the practice of ignoring the person you’re with by paying more attention to your phone than to them.StopPhubbing.com, a tongue-in-cheek website devoted to spreading awareness about the behavior — they report that “if phubbing were a plague, it would decimate six Chinas” — features a spot where you can upload images of your friends phubbing, called “the Phubbing Hall of Shame.”
The new research findings were part of a study of more than 450 adults on “partner phone snubbing” (which they called  “Pphubbing”) that was published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior
Among the more detailed findings:
  • More than 46 percent said they’ve been phubbed by their partner.
  • More than 22 percent said phubbing caused issues in their relationship.
  • Nearly 37 percent said they feel depressed at least some of the time.

President Mahama once carried my video camera during an Investigation-Anas

Ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has revealed that he worked with President John Mahama during one of his investigative escapades.
According to the journalist, President Mahama was then the MP for Bole Bamboi, and the investigation was the ‘Bole Rebo Raid’, in which Anas sought to expose the abductors of a chief.
Anas said the President joined him on that mission to retrace the routes of the rebels and abductors, according to a report by Adomfmonline.

"I worked together with the president on that risky story - he carried the camera and filmed the whole incident - I am sure he still has those clips because he personally shot them," Anas said.
He reportedly made the comment in an interview on Jefferson Reports on Multi TV.

Supermoon plus eclipse equals rare sky show Sunday night

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Get ready for a rare double feature, starring our very own moon.
A total lunar eclipse will share the stage with a so-called supermoon Sunday night or early Monday, depending where you are. That combination hasn't been seen since 1982 and won't happen again until 2033.
When a full or new moon makes its closest approach to Earth, that's a supermoon. Although still about 220,000 miles away, this full moon will look bigger and brighter than usual. In fact, it will be the closest full moon of the year, about 30,000 miles closer than the average distance. (The moon's orbit is far from a perfect circle.)
NASA planetary scientist Noah Petro is hoping the celestial event will ignite more interest in the moon. He is deputy project scientist for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, which has been studying the moon from lunar orbit since 2009.
"The moon's a dynamic place," Petro said Wednesday. "We're seeing changes on the surface of the moon from LRO. We're seeing that it's not this static dead body in the sky ... it's this great astronomical object that we have in our backyard, essentially. So people should get out and start looking at it."
Many stargazers, professional and amateur alike, dislike the term "supermoon," noting the visible difference between a moon and supermoon is slight to all but the most faithful observers.
"It's not like the difference between an ordinary man and Superman," said Alan MacRobert, a senior editor at Sky & Telescope magazine. "It really ought to be called a tiny, slightly little bit bigger moon, rather than the supermoon."
The full eclipse of the moon will last more than an hour and be visible, weather permitting, from North and South America, Europe, Africa and western Asia. Showtime on the U.S. East Coast is 10:11 p.m. EDT (0211 GMT); that's when the moon, Earth and sun will be lined up, with Earth's shadow totally obscuring the moon.
In Europe, the action will unfold before dawn Monday. No matter where, the preshow will begin two hours earlier.
There won't be another total lunar eclipse until 2018.
This eclipse marks the end of a tetrad, or series of four total lunar eclipses set six months apart. This series began in April 2014.
The 21st century will see eight of these tetrads, an uncommonly good run. From 1600 to 1900, there were none.
Observatories are marking the celestial event with public telescope viewing, although magnifying devices won't be necessary; the eclipse will be easily visible with the naked eye. Astronomers are urging stargazers to simply look to the east.
In Los Angeles, Griffith Observatory also will serve up Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" on the piano and other moon-themed music.
NASA will provide a live video feed of the entire eclipse — an option in case clouds obscure your own view.

Victim of LMVC police brutality loses one eye

APOLOGIES FOR THE DISTURBING IMAGES

A victim of alleged police brutality in last Wednesday's chaotic Let My Vote Count demonstration has lost one of his eyes.
Justice Adzakuma, 36, was hit by a stray rubber bullet said to have been fired by the police in an attempt to control the crowd.
Shots and videos taken on the day  of the demonstration showed vivid pictures of police brutality against demonstrators who police accuse of being riotous.
The police claim the demonstrators pelted them with stones and decided to change the route of the demonstration agreed earlier.
Superintendent Cephas Arthur who is with the Police Public Affairs Department said the police had to use minimal force to control the crowd.
But that force has been criticised by a section of Ghanaians

Does Waist Training Really Work?

Getty Images

Just like people want to lose weight, many will equally love to have a slimmer waist. Marie Claire did a post earlier today captioned, "Celebrities Swear by It, But Is Waist Training Actually Healthy?" Well, that's their question. Ours is "Does Waist Training Really Work?"

Read the Marie Claire article HERE.

Is it something everyone can try based on the amazing routine above from +Waistgangsociety ? Women from 500 years ago used to do it perfectly... I mean just wearing the corset but did they have such a stiff routine? Apparently, doing this will compress your lungs and hopefully fracture your ribs.

What is your opinion on this practise?

Inside Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci Heartfelt Tribute to New York

Click Nicky for more celebrity images

Fashion shows can certainly be considered trite, but on a gorgeous evening in Manhattan, on a particularly emotional day for the city of New York, one could not helped but be moved by the awesomeness that was the Givenchy show. Of course the brand’s creative director, Riccardo Tisci, did not go it alone; he enlisted world renowned artist Marina Abramovic — who is a dear friend and resident New Yorker — to lead the artistic direction of the production. What did this entail? Students of her institute for performance art, dressed in black and white, were stationed throughout the elaborate set climbing stairs or holding branches in a trance-like state, which gave the setting an eerily calm feeling in what is typically a rather chaotic environment.

French dad jailed for killing son, 3, in washing machine

Melun (France) (AFP) - A French father who stuffed his son into a washing machine and then surfed the internet as the toddler died was jailed for 30 years.
Christophe Champenois, 36, rammed three-year-old Bastien into the device and switched it on, allegedly as punishment for misbehaviour.
The child's 29-year-old mother, Charlene Cotte, told investigators she did a puzzle with her daughter, and Champenois used the internet while their son screamed inside the whirring washing machine.
She was jailed for 12 years, for "aiding and abetting murder and violence".
