Teachers must support efforts to end exam malpractices

Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur says teachers have an important part to play in efforts to end examination malpractices.
The Vice president urged teachers across the country to support the efforts by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) to end the cheating at exams halls and the recurrent feature of exams question leakage.
He also said efforts by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to check charging of unapproved fees at some schools can be successful with the help of teachers.
The Vice President made these comments during the World Teachers Day and 21st National Best Teacher Awards ceremony held in Tamale.

Bring back Nana Aba Anamoah campaign launched

A solidarity campaign has begun to bring back long serving news anchor of TV3 Nana Aba Anamoah who is serving an indefinite suspension for what managers of TV3 say is misconduct.
The anchor has been trending on facebook and Twitter for over a week now after it emerged she had tweeted a thoroughly edited photograph of a Ghanaian football fan watching a game at Old Trafford.
Critics say the manner in which the photograph was edited and posted on her twitter handle subtly created the impression as though she was at Old Trafford when she was not.

Stop ‘Phubbing’ Up Your Relationship

Are you giving more attention to your phone than your S.O.? This habit is called “phubbing,” and it’s probably not doing your relationship any good.

We’ve all been there: You’re spending quality time with your partner, when they whip out their phone and completely block you out.
While the action is small, it can be infuriating — and new research has discovered that it can cause everything from a decrease in your relationship satisfaction to feelings of depression.
For the uninitiated, phubbing (short for “phone snubbing”) is a term coined to capture the practice of ignoring the person you’re with by paying more attention to your phone than to, a tongue-in-cheek website devoted to spreading awareness about the behavior — they report that “if phubbing were a plague, it would decimate six Chinas” — features a spot where you can upload images of your friends phubbing, called “the Phubbing Hall of Shame.”
The new research findings were part of a study of more than 450 adults on “partner phone snubbing” (which they called  “Pphubbing”) that was published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior
Among the more detailed findings:
  • More than 46 percent said they’ve been phubbed by their partner.
  • More than 22 percent said phubbing caused issues in their relationship.
  • Nearly 37 percent said they feel depressed at least some of the time.

President Mahama once carried my video camera during an Investigation-Anas

Anas said the President joined him on that mission to retrace the routes of the rebels and abductors, according to a report by Adomfmonline.

"I worked together with the president on that risky story - he carried the camera and filmed the whole incident - I am sure he still has those clips because he personally shot them," Anas said.
He reportedly made the comment in an interview on Jefferson Reports on Multi TV.

First lady Michelle Obama chose a dress by a Chinese-American designer for Friday's White House dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The first lady has worn Wang's designs before, winning raves for the draped, strapless, electric blue column she donned at The Kennedy Center Honors in 2011.

Supermoon plus eclipse equals rare sky show Sunday night

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Get ready for a rare double feature, starring our very own moon.
A total lunar eclipse will share the stage with a so-called supermoon Sunday night or early Monday, depending where you are. That combination hasn't been seen since 1982 and won't happen again until 2033.
When a full or new moon makes its closest approach to Earth, that's a supermoon. Although still about 220,000 miles away, this full moon will look bigger and brighter than usual. In fact, it will be the closest full moon of the year, about 30,000 miles closer than the average distance. (The moon's orbit is far from a perfect circle.)
NASA planetary scientist Noah Petro is hoping the celestial event will ignite more interest in the moon. He is deputy project scientist for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, which has been studying the moon from lunar orbit since 2009.
"The moon's a dynamic place," Petro said Wednesday. "We're seeing changes on the surface of the moon from LRO. We're seeing that it's not this static dead body in the sky ... it's this great astronomical object that we have in our backyard, essentially. So people should get out and start looking at it."
Many stargazers, professional and amateur alike, dislike the term "supermoon," noting the visible difference between a moon and supermoon is slight to all but the most faithful observers.
"It's not like the difference between an ordinary man and Superman," said Alan MacRobert, a senior editor at Sky & Telescope magazine. "It really ought to be called a tiny, slightly little bit bigger moon, rather than the supermoon."
The full eclipse of the moon will last more than an hour and be visible, weather permitting, from North and South America, Europe, Africa and western Asia. Showtime on the U.S. East Coast is 10:11 p.m. EDT (0211 GMT); that's when the moon, Earth and sun will be lined up, with Earth's shadow totally obscuring the moon.
In Europe, the action will unfold before dawn Monday. No matter where, the preshow will begin two hours earlier.
There won't be another total lunar eclipse until 2018.
This eclipse marks the end of a tetrad, or series of four total lunar eclipses set six months apart. This series began in April 2014.
The 21st century will see eight of these tetrads, an uncommonly good run. From 1600 to 1900, there were none.
Observatories are marking the celestial event with public telescope viewing, although magnifying devices won't be necessary; the eclipse will be easily visible with the naked eye. Astronomers are urging stargazers to simply look to the east.
In Los Angeles, Griffith Observatory also will serve up Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" on the piano and other moon-themed music.
NASA will provide a live video feed of the entire eclipse — an option in case clouds obscure your own view.

The Kardashian and Jenner apps are already on pace to make an insane $32 million per year

Two days after announcing their apps at the Apple store in Soho, the Kardashians and Jenners are still crushing the download charts — and beginning to rake in cash.
The new apps allow fans even greater access to the world of the Kardashians and Jenners beyond their existing presence on seemingly every social media network around, and it charges users a mere $2.99 a month. Of course, as BuzzFeed's Katie Notopoulos pointed out, that’s an insane $142.53 per year if you sign up for all four apps.

Does Waist Training Really Work?

Getty Images

Just like people want to lose weight, many will equally love to have a slimmer waist. Marie Claire did a post earlier today captioned, "Celebrities Swear by It, But Is Waist Training Actually Healthy?" Well, that's their question. Ours is "Does Waist Training Really Work?"

Read the Marie Claire article HERE.

Is it something everyone can try based on the amazing routine above from +Waistgangsociety ? Women from 500 years ago used to do it perfectly... I mean just wearing the corset but did they have such a stiff routine? Apparently, doing this will compress your lungs and hopefully fracture your ribs.

What is your opinion on this practise?

Inside Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci Heartfelt Tribute to New York

Click Nicky for more celebrity images

Fashion shows can certainly be considered trite, but on a gorgeous evening in Manhattan, on a particularly emotional day for the city of New York, one could not helped but be moved by the awesomeness that was the Givenchy show. Of course the brand’s creative director, Riccardo Tisci, did not go it alone; he enlisted world renowned artist Marina Abramovic — who is a dear friend and resident New Yorker — to lead the artistic direction of the production. What did this entail? Students of her institute for performance art, dressed in black and white, were stationed throughout the elaborate set climbing stairs or holding branches in a trance-like state, which gave the setting an eerily calm feeling in what is typically a rather chaotic environment.

This is the easiest and most basic way to reduce your stress level. It sounds simple, but many people don’t practice it enough. It’s far too common for adults to forget to spend time having fun. Spend some time with loved ones. Take up a hobby or sport. Go roll around in the grass with your kids or your dog. Enjoy yourself. It’s a key part of life

Photographer captures the honest beauty of home births

"I've been photographing whatever happens in my life since 2009, so for me it was only natural photographing the birth of my first daughter," Gomes said in a statement to Mashable.
Not only were Gomes' photographs were for their personal collection, Gomes hopes they can raise awareness about the benefits of natural home delivery in Brazil, where Gomes says the women choosing Caesarean sections is prevalent.
Gomes says his and Bochi's experience was incredibly positive, as they took plenty of precautions with their team of birthing experts to help them along the way. "Priscila and I never felt helpless during the whole process with a doula, an obstetrician and a pediatrician, and we hope that these photos can demystify natural and home childbirths."
Gomes captures many of the calm moments, as well as some of the more painful scenes of Bochi's 20-hour labor, giving the photos both a quiet beauty and a gritty and honest quality.

Somehow the star, who is serving on the festival’s jury, looked impossibly chic right off the plane in Italy. She also looked radiant as she changed her look and outfit three times on Thursday — each style cooler and more glamorous than the next.

Idris Elba ‘Too Street’ to Play James Bond, 007 Author Says

Although a fan and studio favorite to play James Bond, 007 author Anthony Horowitz thinks Idris Elba is “too street” for the role.
The English novelist, whose latest book in the Bond series, Trigger Mortis, hits stores on Sept. 8, told the Daily Mail that the actor is simply not suave enough to succeed Daniel Craig.
“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better,” he said. “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
Horowitz later released a statement apologizing for his remark, acknowledging "street" was a "poor choice of word," and saying he was sorry for causing offense.

In the Daily Mail interview, Horowitz also said that Skyfall, the last and highest-grossing Bond film to date, is his “least favorite” movie from the franchise.
“Bond is weak in it. He has doubts. That’s not Bond,” Horowitz said. “Secondly, the villain wins. The villain sets out to kill M. The film finishes with the villain killing M. So why have I watched it?”
Roger Moore, who played Bond between 1973 and 1985, recently mimicked Horowitz’s sentiment in the French magazine Paris Match, but later said that his comments were taken out of context.
“I think [Bond] should be ‘English-English,'” Moore said. “Nevertheless, it’s an interesting idea, but unrealistic.”
Speculation that Elba would play Bond reached its peak late last year following the release of a hacked email sent in early January of 2014 by Sony Pictures then-co-chair Amy Pascal to Elizabeth Cantillon, former exec VP of production for Columbia Pictures, which distributes the Bond films, that read, “Idris should be the next bond.”
That was followed by Rush Limbaugh’s controversial comments that James Bond must be “white and Scottish.”
“James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish. Period. That is who James Bond is, was,” Limbaugh said last December. “But now [they are] suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton, rather than a white from Scotland. But that’s not who James Bond is.”
“I know it’s racist to probably point this out,” he also acknowledged.
The next Bond movie, Spectre, hits theaters on Nov. 6.

BREAKING NEWS | 2 members of Virginia TV news crew shot dead during live broadcast

A gun man has just shot and killed two media members and wounded a third person on live television today, Wednesday 26th August 2015, while they were filming in central Virginia. The police are still hunting the assailant.

According to WHSV, the police were reportedly chasing the suspect on I-81. CNN reported earlier that cops had the license plate number of the alleged shooter.

The two people killed were identified by WDBJ colleagues as reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27.
A third person, who was being interviewed at the time of the shooting, was shot in the back and is in surgery, according to CNN. That person was identified as Vicki Gardner, head of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce, by the Roanoke Times.

The shooting occurred at 6:45 a.m. at Bridgewater Plaza in Moneta, Va., according to Franklin County Sheriff Department spokesperson Phillip Young.

A federal law enforcement official told Fox News the FBI's

Richmond field office had responded to the scene and was participating in the investigation. The ATF said on Twitter it was also assisting in the manhunt for the shooting suspect.

The shooting occurred live on television while Parker was conducting an interview outdoors about a planned anniversary celebration at Smith Mountain Lake, with Ward filming. When the camera panned to Parker and her subject, multiple shots rang out and several screams could be heard. As the camera fell to the ground, an blurry image suspected to be of the gunman came into view on the screen momentarily.

“We always say ‘senseless’ crime,” WDBJ President and General Manager Jeff Marks said on the station. “How can this individual have robbed Alison and Adam’s families of their lives and loves?”

More to come.

20-year-old Indian expatriate student who suffers from a severe phobia of syringes used in medical tests is struggling to renew her UAE visa. As a result, she is unable to travel back to the US to continue her education.
Denise Fernandes and her mother, Romona, have been frantically looking for ways to get Denise’s visa renewed for the past six months — since the time the visa had expired — but have not been successful as yet, they told Gulf News.
Romona, a single parent to Denise, described the last six months of her life as “a complete mess” as her trips back and forth to different health centres in Dubai, the residency department and Rashid Hospital have not brought her any closer to a solution.

Ciara opens up about being celibate with Russell Wilson

Ciara is candidly sharing about her relationship with boyfriend and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Their relationship attracted attention last month when the NFL star revealed during a Q&A session at San Diego's Rock Church that he and Ciara, who have been dating for over half a year, were trying to be celibate.
"It was one of those things where it was an organic conversation he was having. I don't think he expected to talk about it either, but I guess he's just speaking the reality of what is going on," Ciara said. "It was at church, and I think the cool thing is just that being able to share our journey with other people like us."
While they are Christians and believe in God, Ciara said their decision was also driven by the desire to get to know and love each other based on a "solid foundation."
"It's a great challenge, I can definitely say that, but it's awesome because we get to learn, we get to really challenge ourselves," Ciara said.
Ciara also opened up about her ex-fiancé, rapper Future, amid rumors that he's upset she's introduced their 1-year-old son to her new beau.
